About me

I am an Oxford and Hastings UK based visual artist mainly concentrating on sculpture. The content in this website is a dedicated project I have undertaken over the past decade plus years, Routes of Sorrow, which seeks to examine two types of sorrow: Chronic Sorrow and Inherited Sorrow.

Evolution of this project

My mother died in 2004 and her death unleased a profound re-examination of my childhood with particular focus on growing up with twin, severely autistic non-verbal older brothers. Later, in 2015, one of the twins died and again I thought deeply on how my childhood was inevitably different from others. While living as a capable and responsible child, teenager and as an adult, there was a niggling feeling that  growing up with the presumption of independence and resilience was perhaps not all smooth sailing.

As a working artist, alongside my teaching, making and selling, I have been able to research and examine with others this somewhat unique situation. I believe I have conveyed my thoughts and learnings to others who may also have a sibling with one or more disabilities, through my art, specifically through this Routes of Sorrow decade-long project.

I invite you to contact me with any comments you may have, or to tell me your thoughts having grown up in a similar circumstance. I will keep all correspondence in strict confidence.

I am always interested in what thoughts you may have about my work.

I am particularly interested to hear from others who have a brother or sister with one or more disabilities, as I do. Let's connect.
